What is it made of?
Shell: 51% Straw, 25% Recycled polyester, 16% Wool, 3% Acrylic, 3% Viscose, 1% Polyamide, 1% Cotton. Lining: 100% Polyester.
Straw is an agricultural byproduct consisting of the dry stalks of cereal plants after the grain and chaff have been removed. It is commonly used for our straw hats or straw bags.
All our recycled polyester meets the GRS (Global Recycle Standard) of minimum 20% recycled fibers. At Fsward we aim to reach at least 25%. Made from plastic production leftovers, PET plastic bottles, nylon fishing nets and other plastic waste, recycled polyester requires far fewer processing stages and energy usage. It's also making sure that less plastic ends up in landfills or in nature.
Wool is the textile fiber obtained from sheep and other animals. Wool is a naturally durable fibre, which creates garments that can stay in circulation for a relatively long time. This reduces the environmental footprint of those garments. As stated in our Animal Welfare Policy, all our wool should be mulesing-free.
Acrylic is a man-made synthetic fiber made from oil. The production requires chemicals, water and a lot of energy to produce. At Fsward, our goal is to use more sustainable materials for 100% of our products by 2025. Therefore, we're looking into ways of replacing acrylic with substitutes.
Viscose is made from wood and can use more or less harmful chemicals in its production processes. At Fsward, our goal is to use more sustainable materials for 100% of our products by 2025. So we're always looking for substitutes. Like TENCEL™ Lyocell from Lenzing™. Made from sustainably controlled sources and production processes - it can cut emissions and water impact by 50%, compared to traditional viscose, according to Lenzing™.
This material description is not available yet, but we are working hard to get it live as soon as possible.
Cotton is the most common natural material used to make clothes and requires both pesticides and a lot of water to grow. At Fsward, our goal is to use more sustainable materials for 100% of our products by 2025. Organic cotton will be a key material in this transformation.
Polyester is one of the most commonly used fibers and has good durability. The fiber is based on oil. Unlike cotton, polyester production uses limited amounts of water, but is instead dependant on chemicals. At Fsward, our goal is to use more sustainable materials for 100% of our products by 2025. Therefore, we're continuously increasing our share of recycled polyester. The fashion industy at large is also exploring ways of recycling old garments into new fibers and fabrics at industrial scale. This would enable cirulating polyester fibers to a much greater extent in the future. As a customer, your role is vital in making this a reality. Always recycle clothes that are too worn out to donate, alter or mend.
